SI UN ARBRE J'ÉTAIS (If I Were a Tree)

En 2011, Anne-Marie Giroux entreprend les projets SI UN ARBRE J’ÉTAIS et FORÊT MORTE. Grandement inspirée par la forêt abitibienne (nord du Québec), elle propose des œuvres en deux et trois dimensions élaborées à partir de médiums traditionnels ainsi qu'à partir de matériaux issus de la récupération. Avec la première série SI UN ARBRE J'ÉTAIS, elle fusionne le corps et cette matière qu’est le bois dans une abstraction qui évoque plus un état d’être qu’une représentation figurative. Elle semble isoler un fragment du corps en mouvement qui se délaisse de son esthétique habituelle pour arborer des allures végétales. Tels des autoportraits, l’être et l’élément de la nature ne font qu’un. SI UN ARBRE J'ÉTAIS peut référer à la fois à un état passé ou présent du corps.

In 2011, Giroux undertook the projects SI UN ARBRE J’ÉTAIS and FORÊT MORTE. Greatly inspired by the Abitibi forest in northern Québec, she created works in two and three dimensions developed from traditional mediums, as well as from recycled materials. With the first series, SI UN ARBRE J’ÉTAIS, she merges the body and wood material in an abstraction that evokes more of a state of being than a figurative representation. She seems to isolate a fragment of the body in movement that abandons its usual aesthetic to take on the appearance of something plant-like. In these self-portraits, the being and the natural element become one.

SI UN ARBRE J'ÉTAIS can refer both to a past or present state of the body.
